Success in outsourcing to offshore or nearshore partners requires several key elements:
- A top down commitment to succeed, not just try it.
- A champion without conflicting agendas or biases.
- Manage the outsourcing program identically to a satellite or remote office that is part of the organization in terms of strategy and measurement. Don’t assign work and cross your fingers. Regardless of where work is done, it should be part of a defined strategy—which likely will evolve.
- Training is essential.
- Focus on unit improvement when assigning work. If there is no yield from a segment of business, it doesn’t matter where you put it.
- Don’t be cheap! Paying up slightly for better quality will pay off—just like the U.S. market.
